Girls lacrosse number one in league

The girls lacrosse team beat Springfield and Corvallis to push their record to 8-0 and finish league in first place. Sisters beat Springfield 12-6 on May 2, and then defeated Corvallis 13-6 on May 8, in their final league game of the season.

In action against Springfield, Tara Greaney, at the mid-wing position, scored the first goal of the contest at the five-minute mark to put Sisters up 1-0. The Outlaws struggled on defense throughout the first two quarters and entered the half tied 5-5.

Sisters' defense battled in the second half and held the Colts to just one goal. Keeper Nikki Olson tallied five saves in the second half and a total of eight for the game.

Maison Morgan led the Outlaws with seven goals, two of which came off of penalty shots. Greaney, Harley Bowler, Phoebe Smoot, Jenny O'Connor and Langley Vogt each contributed one goal in the winning effort.

The following week, Sisters posted a big win over Corvallis. The Outlaws started out a bit sluggish and after eight minutes of play were down 2-0. From then on it was a different story. Sisters scored five goals and at the half were on top 5-3. Sisters racked up eight more goals in the second half to secure the win.

Morgan scored seven goals for the Outlaws, and Bowler - who moved back and forth between attack and mid-wing - added three. Vogt scored two goals and Smoot tacked on a goal in the final minutes. Olson recorded five saves.

Coach Michele Hammer noted the fine play of Harley Bowler: "Harley did an amazing job of moving the ball and getting it down to the goal. She worked well at getting the ball to Maison to score. Harley understands what is needed and can cover the field. She is quick and aggressive. Harley's ability to move the ball, combined with Maison's power shots, make them an amazing threat."

Sisters wrapped up league with a perfect record and Maison Morgan led the league with most goals scored.
