News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Outlaws won their first post-season game in the club's history when they defeated Wilson 8-5 at home at a play-in game held in Sisters at Reed Stadium on Wednesday, May 15. Two days later, Sisters fell 11-4 to Oregon Episcopal School in the first round of playoffs.
Wilson jumped out to a quick start in Wednesday's matchup when they scored on their first possession just two minutes into the game.
Sisters responded three minutes later when Jens Stadeli sliced through on the left side on a man-up situation and got it past the goalie.
The Outlaws battled hard the remainder of the contest and pulled off the victory.
Coach Bill Rexford told The Nugget that the win was especially satisfying because the Outlaws have been close to beating quality opponents all season long but have fallen short this year.
On Friday, the Outlaws' season came to end when they lost 11-4 at OES in the first round of the state playoffs.
Stadeli scored Sisters' first goal of the contest, but at the end of the first quarter the Outlaws were down 2-1. Mitch Keranen knocked in a goal in the second quarter, but OES tacked on three more to take a 5-2 lead at the half.
The same trend continued in the second half. Sisters did manage to play even with them for much of the game, but the Aardvark's execution, skill level and ability to finish their opportunities kept them out of reach.
OES dominated time of possession, 70 percent to the Outlaws' 30 percent, and also out-shot Sisters 4 to 1.
Rexford said, "What OES did to us was not physical, it was being more experienced, and they have been in these games before. The Outlaws will be back and the boys know they can take it to the next level. We look forward to getting back to this place next year and expect a different outcome."
