News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Top lacrosse players from the High Desert League squashed the all-stars from the North Valley League in a final score of 18-6 on Saturday afternoon, June 15, in the High Desert All-Star Game held at Sisters High School.
Troy Lalonde (Summit), James Rockett and Brandon Fitzpatrick, (both Bend High players) led the High Desert in scoring with three goals each.
Scott Nelson, Casey Lane and Porter Ford represented the Outlaws squad and also contributed to the win. Nelson scored two goals, Ford recorded one assist and three groundballs and Lane contributed three groundballs in the effort.
Nelson scored both his goals in the second half. The first came in the third quarter on a feed from Summit's Quinn. Nelson shot the ball behind his back on the crease and sent the ball into the top left corner of the cage for the score. Scott's final goal was an unassisted shot that flew to the top left corner from approximately eight yards out.
Nelson told The Nugget that he loved being able to play with other players who brought the contest to a whole new level of competition.
"It was just great!" said Nelson. "Everybody had the stick skills, so we could really work with each other. We got to show everybody how well we could work together. I really enjoyed playing with Porter and Casey. They are both good players and they make me a better player."
Ford and Lane also commented on what it was like to play alongside other top players in the league.
Ford said, "It was great to play with guys from other teams that had great stick skills. The level of play was sped up."
Lane stated, "It was nice to meet and play with other all-stars from the High Desert League. It was exciting to play at that level of lacrosse and with others that played at a high level too."
Outlaws Coach Bill Rexford, summed it up: "Our Outlaws played at a very high level and contributed to the lopsided score. I know Scott, Porter and Casey really enjoyed it."
