Lacrosse announces all-league picks

The boys lacrosse team had nine players selected to all-league teams this year, including first-team pick Porter Ford.

Ford played defense for the Outlaws and was always matched up against the other team's best offensive player. Porter made three goals over the course of the season for the Outlaws and dished out two assists. Coach Bill Rexford told The Nugget that Ford dominated from end line to end line.

Scott Nelson and Casey Lane earned second-team all-league honors. Nelson, from the midfield position, scored 28 goals, tallied 10 assists and recorded 20 groundballs. Rexford noted that Scott is a tenacious competitor with a rocket shot and he is always willing to do whatever needs to be done for the team.

Lane was a long-stick midfielder and a pleasant surprise to the Outlaws coaching staff. As a sophomore, Lane added to an already strong defense and contributed by scooping up groundballs.

Rexford said, "Casey vacuumed up the groundballs. Mr. Hoover he is."

Drew Corrigan, Zach Valoppi, Jens Stadeli, Isaiah Glatz, Colton Cooper and Spencer Smith were all honorable mention.

Corrigan, at attack, scored 18 goals, recorded 24 assists and had 34 groundballs. Rexford stated that Corrigan is one heady player, with smarts and toughness that allowed him to achieve much this year.

Valoppi, also an attack player, scored 23 goals, had nine assists and 30 groundballs. Zach's first year on the varsity squad was one of accomplishments and Rexford told The Nugget that Zach has shown himself to be a scorer and can find his way to the cage.

Stadeli was the Outlaws' sparkplug at the midfield position. Stadeli scored 10 goals, tallied five assists and recorded 72 groundballs. Rexford said that when Stadeli is energized the rest of the team follows. Rexford also noted that Stadeli is not satisfied with competing, but wants to win.

Glatz played at midfield and scored 21 goals, dished out 12 assists and recorded 56 groundballs.

Rexford said, "Day in and day out, Isaiah picks up his stick like a steelworker picks up his lunchbox. He is going to work rain or shine and he did whatever we asked of him."

Cooper played at defense and Smith was the Outlaws' goalie.

"Colton is tough and sweet like saltwater taffy. He is a great teammate but vicious on opponents. Spencer was our goalie, and the bigger the game, the better he played. I am so glad he is a junior and it's not a surprise that the league recognized him for his superior play."

Porter Ford and Spencer Smith were selected as captains for the 2013-2014 season. Only JV players are allowed to win the Stephen Connolly Award, and this year Sam Patton and Mark Fish were the two JV players to win the award.
