Sisters will have a new park on the southeast corner of Fir Street and Main Avenue.
The City of Sisters was awarded the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department 2013 Local Government Grant for the design and construction of Fir Street Park. The grant awarded to the City of Sisters is $206,534, which is 50 percent of the project cost.
The park will include a splash play area with boulders, a performance stage and seating area, a picnic facility, family restrooms, bike corrals, benches, a fire pit with seating, drinking fountain, trash receptacles and parking.
The 2011 Parks Master Plan identifies the development of Fir Street Park and its amenities as a top priority for the Sisters park system. Fir Street Park will benefit local residents and the many tourists that visit the community by providing all ages and abilities a unique place to recreate and picnic in downtown Sisters.
The City anticipates the Park to be open summer 2014.
Twenty-two out of 35 projects were awarded, with total funding of $5,430,544.
"Our city hall parks team is to be congratulated for a job well done in winning this grant," said City Manager Andrew Gorayeb. "They worked very hard and competed with many other well-deserving projects."
