Roadwork scheduled for Barclay Drive

A portion of Barclay Drive will be closed for part of August for work designed to improve the roadway for traffic that will be diverted there during the upcoming Cascade Avenue rehabilitation project.

According to Ann Fisher, Oregon Department of Transportation Community Liaison for the Cascade Avenue project, the section of Barclay Drive from Locust Street to Larch Street will be closed August 7-16 as the pavement is ground down and the section is repaved.

"That section is going to be closed completely," Fisher said. "There will be alternate routes in place."

The repaving will widen corners and strengthen the roadway in anticipation of truck traffic that will be diverted through the industrial park during construction on Cascade Avenue early next year.

In addition to the Locust-to-Larch paving, there will be a three-inch overlay put down on the section from Larch Avenue to Pine Street. That section of Barclay Drive will remain open, with business access, though there may be periodic delays. Flaggers and/or a pilot car will conduct traffic through that zone.

The Cascade Avenue upgrade will improve the battered roadbed of the state highway through downtown Sisters and will upgrade the streetscape.

Preliminary nighttime work is set to begin in August. All construction activities will cease from November 16 through January 1, 2014 at the merchants' request.

Night work will resume January 2, 2014, and continue until March 1, 2014, at which time the Cascade Avenue detour will be put in place with a rolling three-block closure of Cascade Avenue. The detour will remain in place until no later than May 30, 2014. The contractor will incur significant penalties if the detour phase is not complete by May 30.
