A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting incident southeast of Sisters Friday afternoon.
The shooting occurred on Harrington Loop Road. after a police pursuit from the vicinity of Black Butte Ranch through Sisters just before noon on Friday.
Oregon State Police (OSP) stopped a vehicle eastbound on Highway 20 near milepost 85 following a driving complaint. During the contact, the male driver displayed a firearm and then fled eastbound in the vehicle with troopers in pursuit.
Spike strips were deployed near Sisters and the vehicle turned off Highway 20 onto Harrington Loop Road. An OSP senior trooper used a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI - commonly called a pit maneuver) causing the fleeing vehicle to come to a stop between two OSP patrol vehicles. After the vehicle came to a stop, the man again displayed the firearm and two OSP officers fired. The adult male driver was found deceased inside the vehicle. No officers were injured and the firearm was recovered at the scene.
The involved OSP major, age 42, has been employed with OSP for 21 years. The OSP senior trooper, age 43, has been employed with OSP for 14 years. Their names are withheld at this time. Per standard procedure in officer-involved shooting investigations, they are placed on paid administrative leave.
The identity of the subject involved has not been released.
