News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Mayor Brad Boyd has a request for those planning to attend the inaugural Mayor's Ball on Saturday, September 21: Get your tickets now.
An early head-count will help significantly with planning for the amount of food provided for the event. Local restaurants are stepping up to donate food, and Boyd doesn't want anything to go to waste.
"We don't want to have food for 150 if we have 80 and we don't want to have food for 80 if we have 150," he told The Nugget. "If people buy (their tickets) the day before, that doesn't give the restaurants time. That's where we need help. Get your tickets early."
Rancho Viejo, Happy Wok Asian Food Takeout, Melvin's Fir Street Market, HopNBean, Sisters Bakery, Seasons Café and Wine Shop, and Bronco Billy's Ranch Grill and Saloon have all agreed to provide food for the fundraising event.
Javier Luna of Rancho Viejo was happy to participate.
"I have a good relationship with Brad and Karen (Kassy, event organizer) and I actually felt good that they invited me," he said. "These things are good for the community - these kinds of events."
The fundraising event will benefit the Sisters Kiwanis Food Bank. A new facility will come on line this month.
Both Boyd and Kassy emphasized that this is not an exclusive event - quite the opposite. Admission will be on a sliding scale from $15 to $50 so that people can pay what they can afford. There will be additional opportunities to make donations to the food bank. All proceeds from the event go to the charity.
Folks are invited to dress fancy if the fancy takes them, but the spirit of the event is lighthearted. Boyd says the event will be "a fun, happy event - not stuffy or formal."
The ball is set for 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, at The Belfry, 302 E. Main Ave. Limited tickets are available only at Eurosports in Sisters. For information call Kassy at 541-388-3987 or visit www.sistersmayorsball.com.
