Jerry C. Mohler August 23, 1940 - September 7, 2013

Native Oregonian and Marine Corps veteran Jerry C. Mohler passed away quietly in Bend on September 7, after a long illness.

Born August 23, 1940, in Lyons, Oregon, to Dorothy and Ray Mohler, he is survived by two daughters, Alison Uppendahl and Janice Claeys of Bellevue, Washington; and three grandchildren, Garrett, Katie and Adam.

Growing up in "The Canyon," two of Mohler's best buddies were the Holm Twins, Murl and Burl, brothers who remained close to him his entire life.

Mohler graduated from South Eugene High School before enlisting in the U.S. Marines in 1958, where he served four years in Okinawa and San Diego. Returning to the states, he attended the University of Oregon and obtained his business degree in 1964.

After college he built a successful CPA practice, married Pat Scanlan and raised a family in Eugene, eventually retiring to the pine-scented High Desert climate of Sisters, Oregon in 2001. Following 26 years of marriage, Mohler's wife died in 1989.

Among Mohler's many passions were Oregon Ducks football, Harley-Davidson motorcycles, marathon running, fresh apple fritters, photography and mountain climbing, including a triumphant summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa.

His later years were spent in the calm companionship of his many veteran friends at Sisters Coffee Company. As his health faded, his close friends Tom Salgado and Murl Holm ensured Mohler's daily needs were met and his spirits always lifted.

Mohler will be greatly missed by all his family, friends and fellow veterans who bonded over many mugs of coffee and their colorful life stories. God Bless and the Lord will always be with you.
