Outlaws volleyball wins two

The girls volleyball team posted two wins last week to push their overall record to 4-2. Sisters defeated 5A Mt. View on Tuesday, September 10, and two days later took down the Summit Storm (5A).

Sisters traveled to Mt. View on Tuesday and swept the Panthers in three sets with scores of 25-14, 25-16, and 25-13. The Outlaws played a strong all-around game, served tough and took the Panthers out of their offense.

Isabel Tara led the Outlaws with 12 kills, followed by Nila Lukens who posted eight. Allie Spear recorded seven kills and four aces, and Savannah Spear logged seven digs in the match. Alex Hartford dished out 17 assists, followed by Katelyn Meeter who finished with 15.

Coach Miki McFadden told The Nugget that Savannah Spear and Jessie Farr-Baenziger both played well.

"Savannah's digs and passes were so strong and steady and that made it easy for us to run our offense," said McFadden. "And, Jesse came in off the bench and did a nice job passing and digging. She was very steady."

Two days later the Outlaws defeated Summit in four sets at home in Sisters. Scores were 25-27, 25-15, 25-22 and 25-20.

Tara played an exceptional game and finished with 24 kills in the match.

"Tara was just on fire," said McFadden. "She hit with all kinds of power and changed it up with some very nice tips. She was really hot tonight and very effective."

Allie Spear recorded 11 kills, 10 digs and six aces and Lukens finished with 13 kills and three aces. Savannah Spear played a very strong libero both passing and digging the ball and tallied 17 digs in the match. Hartford dished out 32 assists.

"Summit fought hard," said McFadden. "We were way ahead in the first set and they came back and caught us and mixed it up. But, our girls are very athletic, they never quit, and they hang in there and always bring it back and put the pressure on. I'm very pleased with how they are doing. These two wins against these tough 5A teams was a big confidence builder."
