SAGE opens its doors to Sisters seniors

After a successful open house at Sisters Park & Recreation District on September 4, SAGE (Sisters Activities, Gatherings & Enrichment) opened its door to Sisters seniors the following week to its regular schedule on Wednesday afternoons.

There was a group of Mexican Train domino players who were looking for a new place to blow off steam and seem to have found it at SAGE. Newcomers who wanted to join in were instructed and soon became part of many exciting rounds.

Linda Hossner was there to help people who wanted to learn quilting, and had an eager-to-learn student. She would love to have more people come who are interested in quilting because she plans to be there every week - needle and thread at the ready.

The room is open to seniors who are looking for indoor and outdoor activities to do with like-minded people. There are board games, cards, craft supplies, a lending library, and several bulletin boards filled with activities and information for and about seniors. You can sign up for walking, hiking, cycling, disc golf, pickle ball, and other group activities which may take place any day of the week. Just show up at the appointed time and off you go with your new best friends.

You can volunteer to bring snacks, help with setup and cleanup, teach a class, lead a group, pass out flyers. It has the potential to become whatever those who show up want it to be.

Drop in on Wednesdays between 1 and 4 p.m. SPRD is located at the west end of the Sisters High School parking lot. Contact Kelly Sheets, SPRD Adult Program Manager, for information at 541-549-2091.
