Outlaws sweep league foes on hardwood

The Lady Outlaws volleyball team isn't just posting wins against their opponents - they're recording sweeps in every match. Sisters earned a sweep on the road against Elmira on Tuesday, September 24, and two days later swept La Pine.

On Tuesday, Sisters beat the Falcons 25-15, 25-13 and 25-14. Elmira kept the score close at the start of each set, but the Outlaws had some long serving runs that opened the gap and brought each set to a quick close.

Nila Lukens, Allie Spear and Isabel Tara led the Outlaws in kills. Lukens posted 13 kills and four aces. Tara tallied 10 kills and Spear recorded nine kills and three aces.

Alex Hartford dished out 19 assists and served up three aces. Katelyn Meeter had 13 assists in the match and Savannah Spear contributed nine digs.

Coach Miki McFadden said, "We served tough and put them (Elmira) in the hole, and then we pulled away."

Two days later, the Outlaws swept La Pine in three very quick sets with scores of 25-6, 25-9 and 25-13.

Haylie Hudson's string of nine straight serves highlighted the third set.

Kill leaders in the match were Lukens and Tara with seven each. Hudson and Hartford recorded eight assists each and Meeter added seven.

The Spear sisters (Savannah and Allie) had good passing performances and distributed the ball easily to the hitters.

The Outlaws hold the No. 1 spot in league with a 4-0 record and are 10-4 overall. Sisters will play at Junction City on Thursday, October 3.

Volleyball team falls to Santiam Christian

The Lady Outlaws matched up against other top teams in the area at the Santiam Christian Volleyball Tournament in Albany on Saturday, September 28.

Sisters started the tourney against Cascade Christian (CC) in pool play and CC struggled against the Outlaws' tough serves. Sisters won both sets with scores of 25-11 and 25-9. The Outlaws moved on to face Creswell, and numerous hitting and serving errors resulted in a 25-16 loss. Then Sisters came back in the second set and earned a 25-17 win.

The Outlaws beat Willamina 25-9, 25-16 and Corbett 25-19, 25-13 in their final two games of pool play. Sisters' tough serves earned them a second-place finish in pool play.

Teams moved on to bracket play and Sisters matched up against Burns in the quarterfinals. The Outlaws' strong blocks, solid serves and good passes resulted in 25-12, 25-18 wins.

Sisters faced a very quick offense in their match against Santiam Christian (SC) in the semifinals. The game went back and forth in the first set, but in the end SC pulled out the 27-25 win. The Outlaws came back and earned a 25-21 win but then fell 15-12 in the final set.

Coach Miki McFadden said, "They (SC) run a quick offense and have a strong setter. Our girls defended and blocked well, but their offense was quicker than anything we've faced this year."

Nila Lukens, Allie Spear and Isabel Tara led the Outlaws with kills for the tourney. Lukens posted 40 kills, Spear tallied 37 and Tara contributed 36.

Alex Hartford dished out 76 assists on the day and Katelyn Meeter added 43.

Several players posted multiple aces. Allie Spear led the team with eight, followed by Hartford who finished with seven. Lukens and Savannah Spear each contributed six aces. Savannah also led the team with 20 digs.

"It was tough to lose in that tight match against Santiam Christian, but it was good competition and it speeded up our game and made us more focused," said McFadden. "We had to play up and that was really good for us."
