Quilt show raises thousands for partners

Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show (SOQS) raised over $13,700 to support three organizations in Central Oregon.

On Tuesday, October 1, SOQS board member Myrna Dow will present a $12,000 check to Wendy's Wish/St. Charles Cancer Care Center of Bend. This donation is made possible by quilters from around the world and the community partnership between SOQS and Wendy's Wish/St. Charles Cancer Care Center. Annually, creative, handmade fabric postcards are donated to the SOQS Wish Upon A Card project and sold or auctioned at a variety of venues during the week leading up to the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show.

Dow, owner of High Desert Frameworks! in Bend, donates labor and all framing costs for the select group of artful cards chosen for auction. Once framed, these creative cards become collectable pieces of artwork.

According to Dow, "High Desert Frameworks! believes it is our responsibility to use our presence, talent, and resources to improve our local communities. The work of Wendy's Wish is near and dear to our hearts, and we are thrilled to continue to support their important work through this project."

Wendy's Wish was established in 2007 in honor of Wendy Huntley - wife, mother, teacher, and quilter who made Central Oregon her home. That same year, SOQS initiated the project, selecting Wendy's Wish as a community partner. Over the past seven years SOQS has raised more than $71,000 for Wendy's Wish to provide non-medical monetary support for patients undergoing cancer treatment.

This year a record was set, with more than 350 fabric postcards donated for the Wish project. If you would like to participate in next year's project, http://www.sisters

Two additional SOQS Community Partners include Kiwanis of Sisters and Sisters Park & Recreation District. Sales of tickets for the 2013 raffle quilt "Streams of Color" raised more than $1,200 for Kiwanis programs including includes the food bank. Sisters Park & Recreation District received a donation of $500 from the SOQS 2013 bike raffle featuring the one-of-a-kind cruiser bike designed by Kathy Deggendorfer.
