News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The boys' soccer team defeated the Hawks 10-0 at La Pine on Tuesday, October 1, and two days later beat the Huskies 5-0 at Sweet Home. Sisters holds the No. 1 spot in league with a 5-0 record.
In Tuesday's action, the Outlaws held a 2-0 lead at the half. At the 15-minute mark, La Pine somehow managed to score on themselves off an Evan Rickards cross and put Sisters on top 1-0. Rickards scored nine minutes later on a breakaway up the right side.
Coach Rob Jensen told The Nugget that his team had a slow first half.
"We tried a little too hard to do things individually and ended up slowing down our play in the process," said Jensen. "We came out with low energy."
The Outlaws refocused and in the second half put in eight more goals.
Justin Harrer scored off a cross in the 47th minute, and two minutes later Connor Schaab scored on a one-touch from a Ron Kilian cross.
Harrer trapped the Hawks' goal kick and took it in for a score in the 50th minute and scored again two minutes later off a pass from Schaab for a hat trick.
Schaab scored back-to-back goals off passes from Colton Mannhalter, and the Outlaws extended their lead to 8-0.
Harrer picked up his fourth goal of the contest and Jadon Bachtold finished the scoring with 10 minutes left on a short pass from the left side from Porter Ford.
"We played a mediocre first half with low energy followed by a little bit better second half," stated Jensen. "We were able to make quicker passes and use our teammates."
Two days later the Outlaws played an incredible game in spite of muddy field conditions.
Sisters scored two goals in the first half of the contest. Colton Mannhalter received a drop from Jake McAllister at the top of the 18-yard box that he chest-trapped to a volley for a goal in the 23rd minute of play. Five minutes later, McAllister was taken down inside the penalty area and Gabe Willitts put in the PK.
The Outlaws added three more goals in the second half for the shutout.
McAllister scored off a corner kick from Evan Rickards on a one-touch at the 53-minute mark, and three minutes later Justin Harrer scored off another corner kick from Rickards.
Jake finished the scoring when he ran through the defense and connected on a pass from Rickards for the goal.
Rickards had a great game for the Outlaws and finished with three assists on the night. Jensen told The Nugget that Evan did a great job of finding the feet of his teammates.
Jensen also noted that Gabe Willitts, Jardon Weems, Casey Lane and Keenan O'Hern did a great job orchestrating the Outlaws' seventh shutout of the season.
Jensen said, "Sweet Home's field was super narrow and long, so it was slow going. They (Sweet Home) packed back into a 5-10 man defense and hoped for the best. Our guys played with solid energy and were able to really work on ball reversal and attacking from various angles. We scored in a variety of ways and were able to probe the defense for weaknesses and then switch the attack when needed."
Sisters controlled the ball for 91 percent of the possession and allowed zero shots on goal. The Outlaws had 15 shots on goal and 20 more shots off the frame.
The Outlaws are 5-0 in league and hold an 8-0 overall record. Sisters has outscored their opponents 57-1 on the season.
Sisters was to play at home against Elmira on Tuesday, October 8. The following week the Outlaws will play at home against Junction City on Tuesday, October 15, and two days later will travel to Cottage Grove.
