Girls soccer at the top of the league

The Lady Outlaws tallied two easy wins this past week and remain the team to beat in league play. On Tuesday, October 1, the Outlaws shut out La Pine 11-0 at home, and two days later defeated the Sweet Home Huskies 7-1.

Jenny O' Conner scored Sisters' first goal against La Pine in the third minute off a cross from Dani Rudinsky.

After just seven minutes had ticked off the clock the Outlaws were already up 3-0. Liz Stewart scored from outside the 18-yard box off a Haley Carlson assist and Carlson followed with an unassisted goal.

Sisters put in four more goals to take a 7-0 lead at the half; two goals from Emily Corrigan and two from Natalie Ambrose.

Two minutes into the second half, Carlson crossed the ball perfectly to Corrigan who volleyed it in for the score. Ambrose followed with the Outlaws' ninth goal of the game. Natalie dribbled the ball up from the middle of the field and sent in a beautiful shot.

Corrigan and Ambrose finished off the scoring spree. Emily won the ball in the box and put it into the net for an unassisted goal, and Natalie dribbled through multiple players and sent a low shot into the lower left-hand corner for the goal.

Rudinsky and Carlson each had two assists in the contest and Corrigan and Ambrose each contributed one.

Coach Audrey Tehan said, "The girls are playing extremely well together, and everyone is working on improving their personal skills as well as the overall movement of our team. They are extremely smart and think about what they are doing with the ball and make purposeful movements on the field."

Tehan recognized Cassandra Arruda, Claire Henson, and Anna Ortega for their great defensive performance and said that it is hard for any team to get the ball past the midfield line.

Liz Stewart, Rudinsky, Corrigan and Ambrose were also noted for their consistent top-notch play.

"Liz is playing great at the defensive midfield position, serving many different balls to different players allowing the team to have a very dynamic attack. Dani has improved a lot at outside midfield and forward and is a key leader on our team. Emily has stepped it up at forward, is always in the right place at the right time, and works extremely hard the entire game. Natalie is having an amazing year with her finishing, improving dramatically from last year with more that 60 percent of her shots on frame and in the back of the net."

On Thursday, the Outlaws posted a 7-1 win at home over the Sweet Home Huskies.

Ambrose got the Outlaws on the scoreboard in the 25th minute. Carlson made a nice pass over to Natalie, who settled the ball down and knocked it into the right-hand corner of the net.

Stewart scored Sisters' second goal five minutes later. Carlson had a beautiful corner kick cross and Liz headed it in for the score. Haley and Liz on corner kicks is one of the Outlaws' strongest combinations and the Outlaws score a lot of goals off this play.

At the half the Outlaws held a 2-0 advantage over the Huskies.

Carlson posted her third assist of the game at the 53-minute mark. Haley beat a player down the sideline and made a perfect cross to Stewart who booted it in from outside the 18-yard box.

Haley followed with an unassisted goal 12 minutes later to put the Outlaws on top 4-0. She beat a player and then cut inside and knocked in a beautiful shot from the right side from 18 yards out.

Natalie Ambrose and Cassandra Arruda teamed up and worked together for a goal in the 72nd minute. Cassandra dribbled down the left side, beat two players and placed the ball inside, right at the feet of Ambrose. Natalie, in the midst of several players, shot the ball into the goal.

Dani Rudinsky and Emily Corrigan wrapped up Sisters' scoring, each with a goal in the last five minutes of the contest. Rudinsky was there for the finish when a hard shot by Ambrose was deflected by the keeper. Corrigan nailed a beautiful shot into the upper right-hand corner off a Kristen Sanders pass.

Sweet Home's lone goal came in the 60th minute off the Huskies' aggressive play.

Tehan noted Haley Carlson and Cassandra Arruda for their contributions to the team.

"Haley takes shots from far out, assists many of our goals, and is a very important cornerstone of our team" said Tehan. "Cassandra has stepped in to play a critical role, allowing us to mix her into the midfield and outside defense as she is very talented anywhere on the field."

The Outlaws were to play Elmira on Tuesday, October 8. Sisters will face the Tigers at Junction City on Tuesday, October 15, and then play at home against Cottage Grove two days later.
