To the Editor:

With all of the work going on in town and the questions raised by concerned citizens, it was good to see the mayor and city manager move quickly to ally fears among the folks in town.

The larger picture is the affect the decisions of the elected officials - the policy makers - have on those of us who live in "Sisters Country." Yes, we can attend meetings and make our voices heard. But, are we included in the election process for those whose actions affect our lives as well? No.

In essence, those of us in the wider geographic area have no recourse when it comes to electing or getting rid of those city council members whose policies change our lives. They do not depend upon the rest of us for their elected positions, so why should they care?

Every decision made by the Sisters City Council directly affects everyone living in the wider area fondly referred to as "Sisters Country." It is way past the time city council elections include all those living within the range of the actions of the city council and, through the council, the city government at large.
