Sisters salutes...

Since the early l990s Jennie traveled from Apple Valley, California, to visit her sister living in Bend and attend the Sisters Annual Quilt Show. These visits were some of the happiest times of her life.

Jennie would travel by train, car, or family camper. Her favorite accommodations included FivePine Lodge in Sisters, campgrounds in Central Oregon, and her sister's home in Bend. Her travel companions included her husband, daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, and friends. All enjoyed the Quilt Show and its many festivities.

Due to Jennie's love of quilts, she would arrive in Sisters a few days before the start of the show to scout out the early hangings, to shop, and to eat at the many fine restaurants in town.

I know Jennie would like to thank everyone for the kindness and hospitality always shown to her by the folks at FivePine Lodge, Heritage USA, Sage Antiques, Sisters Drug & Gift, Stitchin' Post, Common Threads, and Hen's Tooth (a special thank-you for your kindness and thoughtfulness at her passing; she so loved your shop). Thanks also to Rancho Viejo, Seasons Deli, Three Creeks Brewing Co., and Sisters Bakery. Sisters Movie House and BJ's Ice Cream Parlor were big hits with the grandchildren, as well as with Jennie.

On Quilt Show Day, Jennie was on a mission to add new treasures to her quilt collection, as well as select special gifts for family and friends. Displaying all the beautiful quilts on her sister Bunnie's lawn, before packing up to go home, was one of Jennie's favorite activities. The beautiful display and pictures taken with the family created many happy memories.

Jennie, who would decorate her lovely home for every imaginable holiday, never missed the chance to decorate with her beautiful Sisters quilts. So thank you quilters. Your hard work and special talents are very much appreciated.

After a wonderful 10-day visit in Central Oregon, Jennie and her family headed back to Apple Valley, a two-day trip for an active group. The day of her arrival home, Jennie suffered a pulmonary embolism. Her family found her surrounded by the beautiful quilts that she had already displayed. She passed away on July 27, 20l3. Family and friends celebrated her life with a beautiful memorial with many quilt show pictures and a quilt display, including this year's favorite, the Sun Flower Quilt.

Jennie's family knew how much the Sisters area brought her happiness and how many fond memories she enjoyed here. They decided to travel back to Sisters and scatter her remains. The family plans to return yearly and attend the Quilt Show in Jennie's honor and to continue to celebrate her life.
