News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The girls volleyball team recorded a sweep at home over the Sweet Home Huskies on Tuesday, October 8, to push their league record to 7-0.
Sisters started off the match very fast and won the first set 25-8. The Outlaws backed up their hitters and recovered quickly off the block. Allie Spear contributed a highlight in the match.
"Isabel (Tara) hit the ball hard and it was blocked," said Coach Miki McFadden. "Since she (Tara) hits so hard it comes back hard and Allie (Spear) reacted quickly and hit the ground to get it back up and win the rally for us."
The Outlaws went on to win the following two sets with scores of 25-16, 25-14.
Sisters' kill percentage was very high, and Tara led the way with 17 kills and zero errors. Allie Spear logged nine kills and Nila Lukens tallied eight. Brooke Knirk contributed six kills and Brenna Weems added five.
Savannah Spear led the defense with 17 digs. Alex Hartford dished out 24 assists and Katelyn Meeter contributed 17.
Nila Lukens commented on the close connection the Lady Outlaws have with each other.
"We're very bonded," said Lukens. "We've all played together before and we're close on and off the court, and that helps our chemistry a lot."
Lukens also told The Nugget she is optimistic about the post-season.
"I'm very optimistic about the playoffs," said Lukens. "We just need to keep playing our game. If we make a mistake we need to pick each other up, stay positive, be smart with our shots and take care of the ball."
McFadden noted that she plans to schedule a couple of post-season matches with tougher competition to prepare for the state playoffs.
The Outlaws are 7-0 in league and 14-4 overall. Sisters will play at home against La Pine on Thursday, October 17, and honor their senior players before the match begins.
