News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sisters battled hard against a very big and strong Cottage Grove squad at home on Friday, October 18, but fell 61-14. The Lions entered the contest undefeated and ranked No. 2 in the state, and proved to be more than the Outlaws could handle.
Cottage Grove scored twice in the first quarter to take an early 13-0 lead and then steamrolled over the Outlaws in the second quarter. The Lions scored five more touchdowns and took a commanding 45-0 lead before the Outlaws even got on the scoreboard.
Sisters scored their first touchdown of the night just before halftime. The drive was set up by a 63-yard kickoff return followed by a 13-yard pass from Tristan Lewis to Jens Stadeli. Nate Kaping caught an eight-yard pass from Lewis for the TD, and Josh Andrade kicked the PAT which brought the score to 45-7 at the half.
The Lions added a touchdown in the third quarter and Sisters countered with one of their own when they scored on a blocked punt. Shane Cormalis blocked the punt on the five-yard line and Keegin Bloss recovered it in the end zone. Josh Andrade's kick was good.
Cottage Grove tacked on another score in the final quarter.
Coach Gary Hedin told The Nugget that the Outlaws battled the entire night and played with a lot of heart.
Sisters will play at La Pine on Friday, October 25, in their final league game of the season.
