Lady Outlaws win final league games

The girls soccer team posted two road wins to wrap up league play. Sisters beat La Pine 6-0 on Monday, October 21, and two days later defeated Sweet Home 3-0.

In Tuesday's action against La Pine, the Outlaws jumped out quick and scored their first goal two minutes into the game off a shot by Emily Corrigan. Natalie Ambrose found Corrigan as she ran through the Hawk's defense and slid a perfect through-ball to Emily who sent the ball past the keeper.

Three minutes later Liz Stewart shot the ball from the top of the 18 yard box into the upper right-hand corner off a volley from Ambrose and the Outlaws went up 2-0.

Ambrose got in on the scoring action at the 12-minute mark. Natalie dribbled the ball past four La Pine players and took a shot from outside the 18-yard box to extend the Outlaws lead to 3-0.

Ambrose scored again in the 32nd minute off a Molly Boyle assist. Boyle and Ambrose made a beautiful give-and-go combination play up the sideline and then Molly took the ball past two players before she crossed the ball to the feet of Natalie, who was right in front of the goal.

Five minutes later, Haley Carlson dropped the ball in front of the goal off a corner kick and Kristen Sanders was able to fight through the masses, get a foot on the ball and knock it into the net.

At the half, Sisters was on top 5-0.

Ambrose scored off a PK from a handball in the box at the 70-minute mark for Sisters' final goal of the night, and her third goal of the game for a hat trick.

They put on the pressure in the second half, and made numerous combination plays up the sidelines and through the center. However, they were unable to connect on any of their 20 shots on goal. Sisters had five of their shots bounce off the post and La Pine's keeper did a great job protecting the goal.

Coach Audrey Tehan said, "We need to work on our composure on the ball when we are taking shots, and we will focus on this before the playoffs. The girls continue to improve and refine our play as individuals and as a team."

Two days later, the Outlaws shut out the Huskies.

The Outlaws scored their first goal with eight minutes left in the first half. Emily Corrigan settled a loose ball in the box and made a line drive shot into the lower left-hand corner. At the half Sisters held a 1-0 lead.

Kristen Sanders scored Sisters' second goal at the 57-

minute mark. Haley Carlson served in a corner kick and the ball dropped right in front of the goal. Sanders was able to run in, get her foot on the ball and send it over the line.

Dani Rundinsky knocked in the final goal with 11 minutes left on the clock. Corrigan shot a ball that the SH keeper could not control and Dani was there to follow up and finish for the score.

Tehan said, "Our level of play and our intensity was high knowing the playoffs are right around the corner. We finished league play very strong and dominated our competition every game. It was a challenge being a lot stronger than other league teams this year. We had to constantly be creative and find ways to continue to challenge ourselves. We had to hold to high standards and demand higher play even when the competition wasn't there."

Nina Horner stepped in at outside defense as Anna Ortega is out with an injury. Tehan stated that Horner did a phenomenal job and proved she will be a crucial player for the Outlaws as they head into playoffs.

Tehan noted several players and their contributions to the team.

"Michaela (Miller) is a powerful weapon for us down our left side, and Haley (Carlson) is one of our biggest play-makers. Natalie (Ambrose) and Liz (Stewart) are a dominating force as center midfielders. They are phenomenal players, play completely in sync and put extreme high pressure on other teams. Molly (Boyle) at center defense really holds our team together and helps conduct everyone. She's extremely smart and a great leader. Hannah (Ceciliani) plays keeper and is a dominating force in the 18-yard box, and has showed us she is ready to step into playoffs."

The Outlaws will play at home on Tuesday, November 5, in the first round of the state playoffs.
