Outlaws snap losing streak on gridiron

The Outlaws football team came through big in their final league game of the season with a 20-6 victory at La Pine on Friday, October 25.

Sisters scored two touchdowns in the second quarter and at the half held a 13-0 lead over the Hawks.

The Outlaws' first touchdown was the result of a 12-play drive. Tristan Lewis threw a big 18-yard pass to Isaac Mackenzie over the middle of the field and then threw a 10-yard pass to Lane Gladden up the right sideline. Logan Schutte had a 13-yard run to the 25-yard line, and a penalty took it to the 10-yard line. Two plays later, Schutte scored on a 10-yard run behind great blocking from Nate Kaping, Tristan Kirshner, Sam Patton and Rory Peterson. The kick failed but Sisters took a 6-0 lead.

Sisters' second TD was set up by a 65-yard reception by Jens Stadeli over the middle that got the Outlaws to the six-yard line. Lewis threw a pass to Lane Gladden for the touchdown. Josh Andrade's kick was good and the Outlaws extended their lead to 13-0.

La Pine scored on a seven-yard run in the third quarter to narrow the lead to 13-6.

The Outlaws tacked on their final touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 10-yard drive. Big plays in the drive were an eight-yard run by Schutte on third and three and a 15-yard pass to Gladden from Lewis on third and 10. Nate Kaping caught an 18-yard pass for the TD. Lane Adams and Mike Voorhies provided the protection that gave the Outlaws time to get the pass off. Andrade's kick was good and Sisters went up 20-6.

Jens Stadeli sealed the game with an interception on the Outlaws' 30-yard line.

Sisters finished the night with 455 yards of total offense, 228 yards rushing and 227 yards passing.

Logan Schutte had 141 yards on 24 carries, and Jens Stadeli had 102 yards on three receptions. Shane Cormalis led the Outlaws with nine tackles and a sack and a tackle for a loss. Nate Kaping recorded a forced fumble.

Of the win, senior Nate Kaping said, "It was definitely a good end to the season. It was a good change. We were all happy to be playing football and it felt like we were going to the playoffs."

Coach Gary Hedin was pleased with his team and their hard work all season long.

"The guys played hard all year, no matter what the match-up," said Hedin. "They played with heart. Our seniors gave us leadership that we can build upon for our program. Our younger players improved every week."
