News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The girls soccer team wrapped up an incredible league season with a 10-0 record. Eight outstanding players were selected to all-league teams. At the top of the pack was senior Natalie Ambrose, who earned top honors as Player of the Year and as a first-team all-league pick.
Ambrose has played at the varsity level for four years and is one of the most talented female soccer players in the state. Natalie finished league play with 26 goals and nine assists.
"Natalie earned Player of the Year recognition through working extremely hard all-year-round at improving her soccer skills and dedicating time to play on multiple teams across the country," said Tehan. "She is an amazing defender and has endless energy on the field. Natalie's control of the ball is amazing, making her deadly when she gets the ball at the feet and starts running up the field. She is also an extremely humble individual who likes to see her teammates excel more than herself."
Juniors Liz Stewart and Molly Boyle also earned first-team all-league recognition.
Liz controls the midfield for the Lady Outlaws and has a large presence on the field. She finished league with 11 goals and three assists.
"If Liz is given room she will dominate other teams," said Tehan. "She is one of our captains who show strong leadership skills. Her ball control and vision for the game make her indispensable. Liz is one of our lead playmakers, and she distributes the ball across the field. Her endurance and speed are rare to come across and this, combined with her technical skills on the ball, make her a vital asset to the team."
Boyle is known for her speed, and dished out five assists to her teammates during league play
"Molly is one of the fastest players I have seen at the high school level," said Tehan. "Her speed on and off the ball is lethal. She just made the Olympic Development Program Team, which shows she's one of the best players in the state. All of the best players in the state compete for spots on this team. Molly is a stronghold for us on the defensive line and is a great coordinator and motivator."
Four players were second-team all-league picks, including seniors Emily Corrigan and Haley Carlson, and sophomores Michaela Miller and keeper Hannah Ceciliani.
Corrigan was the Outlaws' second top-scorer with 21 goals. Emily also had six assists.
"Emily is one of our strongest leaders," stated Tehan. "She is an amazing leader on and off the field. I really look to her to bring the team together and to help us get through tough situations. Emily is a tenacious player and always drives toward the goal, which makes her one of our strongest attacking players. She worked really hard this year to become a dynamic forward and she created chaos for the other teams' defense."
Carlson was rock-solid all season long for the Outlaws and recorded nine goals for the team. She led the team with 16 assists.
"Haley is so reliable and consistent and her accuracy with corner kicks and crosses led to many goals," said Tehan. "Haley really keeps up team moral, always has a smile on her face and just adds a lot of positive energy to the team, which is crucial to a successful season."
Sophomores Michaela Miller and Hannah Ceciliani round out the second-team all-league picks.
Tehan told The Nugget that Miller's athleticism is incredible and noted that she can do it all, jump, sprint, turn, cut and more, and in any situation with a ball at her feet.
Ceciliani is also a player with very good footwork and she is tenacious in the box. Hannah recorded 10 saves during league.
"Hannah's skills are obvious to the other coaches," said Tehan. "The saves she made were a great showcase of her skills and knowledge as a keeper."
Rudinsky earned honorable mention recognition and finished league with five goals and eight assists.
"Dani is one of our most improved players and never gives up," stated Tehan. "She has become a very strong forward and is a very smart player. Dani has grown stronger and faster throughout the season."
Tehan told The Nugget that many players on the Outlaws squad deserved league recognition.
"The voting system is set up so votes get distributed across the league pretty equally," said Tehan. "It is hard to have more than five players on a team be recognized, but we had many girls that deserved recognition."
Tehan, in her second year as head coach, was named Coach of the Year and was honored she was chosen.
"I'm extremely honored I was chosen for Coach of the Year," said Tehan. "The league has a lot of incredible coaches with years of coaching experience. The girls have allowed me to improve as a coach and have really gotten behind my vision for the team of first being a positive environment and secondly being a competitive and motivating environment."
