News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
After searching for over a year to find a new Nordic (cross country) ski coach for Sisters High School (SHS), a former SHS student has filled the position. Kelly Crowther, a 2008 SHS graduate and 2012 University of Utah graduate will replace Tom Blust as head coach of the SHS Nordic ski
team.
Crowther brings with him a strong background in Nordic ski racing. He raced with the SHS Nordic ski team for four years and also raced for Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation (MBSEF) and Bend Endurance Academy (BEA), qualifying for the junior Olympics twice and once for the senior Nationals.
"I am looking forward to getting out and skiing with SHS kids," Crowther said. "I enjoy teaching people how to Nordic ski and introducing them to this lifelong sport."
Until the snow arrives, training will consist of running, strength training, and roller skiing. Practice will be after school three days a week and Saturdays will be added in when the trails are skiable. Practices on snow will usually take place at Hoodoo or Meissner Nordic ski areas.
An informational meeting will be held at the Sisters High School on Wednesday, November 13, at 6:30 p.m.
Crowther encourages all students and parents to come to the meeting and learn about the Nordic ski team. Skiers of all levels, including those who have never skied, are strongly encouraged to check it out. For more information call at 541-480-7969.
