News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
More than 30 businesses in downtown Sisters are keeping their doors open later on Friday, November 29, to offer evening strollers a Christmas Cookie Crawl.
The event is in conjunction with the annual tree-lighting ceremony at Barclay Park.
The businesses will stay open until 7 p.m. on "Black Friday" with holiday savings, promotions, and in-store demonstrations. The Christmas Cookie Crawl will officially take place from 4 to 7 p.m., with many businesses having specials all day long and some through the weekend. The hub of the Cookie Crawl will be at Barclay Park, with booths from the Sisters Chamber, ODOT, and other local non-profits. Cookie Crawl maps with information on participating businesses and their special treats will be available at Barclay Park and at participating businesses.
Barclay Park is also the location for the Sisters Community Christmas Tree Lighting. The tree lighting will be held at 5:30 p.m. that same evening and will feature music and lead caroling by the Sisters High Desert Chorale (see related story, page 3).
Many downtown Sisters businesses have come together to support this event, along with the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce in preparation for the Cascade Avenue Street Improvement Project. The Cascade Avenue Street Improvement Project major construction will begin in 2014, but the celebration of a new road and the beautification of Sisters begins now. Downtown businesses will use this and subsequent community events as an opportunity to celebrate Sisters, community, and togetherness while offering locals and visitors a continued way to enjoy all that downtown Sisters has to offer.
"We wanted to do something similar to an art stroll, with components that would be fun for the whole family. The Cookie Crawl helped us do both! Several downtown businesses are going to stay open later, each with a different delectable treat for people to sample as they stroll through the shops of Sisters," said Chamber of Commerce Events Coordinator John Rivera.
