Five Outlaws named to all-league teams

The Lady Outlaws volleyball team had five players from their squad named to all-league teams, including Nila Lukens and Allie Spear, who were first-team all-league picks.

Lukens (junior) played middle for the Outlaws and finished league with 193 kills, 26 digs, and 19 blocks. Nila also recorded 222 serves for 93 percent.

"Nila is a super team-player," said Coach Miki McFadden. "She has great physical ability, is very quick. She's only five-feet-seven but she has an amazing vertical jump of 30 inches. She's able to get up high and really hit the ball down, and she can also hit angles. Because she establishes her hits that way her tip is very effective."

Spear, a sophomore, was also a first-team selection. Allie recorded 178 kills, 44 digs, and tallied 231 serves for 83 percent. Spear also posted 46 aces during league play.

"Allie is our best all-around player," said McFadden. "She plays the entire game, both the front and back row. She's one of our main passers and one of our main outside hitters. She gets a lot of sets and she has a variety of shots she can go to."

Senior Savannah Spear (captain) was a second-team all-league pick. Savannah played a major role for the Outlaws at the libero position. Spear recorded 111 digs and tallied 17 aces, and also had 152 serves for 89 percent.

"Savannah is an excellent passer and she really set up our offense," said McFadden. "She served 60 balls on serve receive attempts."

Two players, Isabel Tara, and Katelyn Meeter earned honorable mention.

Tara played at outside hitter and accrued the most kills on the team with 248. Isabel also tallied 12 blocks in league play.

McFadden said, "Isabel is all power and attacks the ball strong. She has so much power that it is very hard for the other team to dig."

Meeter (senior captain) played at setter and at right side hitter. Katelyn dished out 222 assists and posted 196 serves for 92 percent. McFadden told The Nugget that Katelyn is a very hard worker and served the ball well.

McFadden noted she was proud of her entire team and felt they all deserved to be recognized.

"If you're truly voting on who are the best players in the league, our girls should have all been first-team selections because we beat everybody handily in our league. But, the league really wants to spread out the votes when it comes to all-league so we were only able to get five."

McFadden was chosen as Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.
