News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
As part of its Cowboy Christmas events, the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce will host its yearly Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday, November 29, presented by Hoodoo. The annual Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday, November 30, at 2 p.m. on Hood Ave.
For the ninth year, the Sisters Chamber and the City of Sisters have partnered with the Deschutes Land Trust to acquire a majestic white fir to adorn downtown Sisters. The annual tree lighting will take place on Friday, November 29 at 5:30 p.m., featuring caroling led by Sisters High Desert Chorale, and a Cookie Crawl through town, where strollers can sample free and festive holiday treats from local downtown businesses that will stay open late following the tree lighting (see related story page 10).
This year's parade theme is "Silver Bells: Silver Screen - A Movie Filled Christmas" and will feature participants celebrating some favorite holiday films.
"I'm really thrilled to be planning such a fun event," said John Rivera, events coordinator at the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce. "I've heard one entry may be considering 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' on their float."
The parade will begin at 2 p.m. and will have participants float, march, and sing their way down Hood Avenue for onlookers. Spectators can join Santa Claus himself afterward for refreshments and pictures at the Sisters chamber office (291 E, Main Ave.) after the parade. Hoodoo's Harold the Hodag will be at the chamber offices offering special deals at Hoodoo this winter.
Applications for participations in the Christmas Parade are still available online at http://www.sisterscountry.com or at the chamber offices. Applications are being accepted through November 21. For more information or a complete Cowboy Christmas calendar of events email [email protected]
