News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Candyce Park has had a passion for jewelry since her youth.
"I took a class in high school in 1977, and fell in love," she said.
Now she's decided the time is right to pursue that passion in a retail operation. She has opened Things, Etc... in the northeast corner of the building on the corner of Elm Street and Hood Avenue (follow the signs).
I do jewelry repair and I make jewelry," she said. "I can take someone's old rings and make them into something new."
Things, Etc... is also filled with art from Parks' many artist friends and vintage items she's picked up along the way.
"I thought I could fill a niche," she said of her repair services. "I'll repair watch bands and things."
After her initial exposure to jewelry-making in high school, Park apprenticed in the trade, then worked for a high-end shop in Idaho.
"I moved here in 1989 to work for Jan (Daggett, proprietor of The Jewel)," Park said.
Park says Daggett will refer repair work her way.
She says the time was right to take the entrepreneurial plunge. Employment has been tough to find during the recession, and Park decided to pull together what financial resources she could and take a shot at making a go of it in a small retail space of her own.
Her hours through the holidays will be Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday by appointment. Things, Etc... will host an open house on Friday, November 29, (the day after Thanksgiving) and she'll be open till 7 p.m. She'll also be open through Sunday on that weekend.
