Western shop celebrates 10 years

For the past decade, folks in Sisters have been finding quality consignment Western wear, jewelry and antiques at Kate Aspen's Cowgirls & Indians Resale shop in Sisters.

On November 30, Aspen will celebrate making it through 10 sometimes tough years in Sisters with an open house at the shop at 160 S. Oak St. from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Jill Stanford will be on hand from 2 to 4 p.m. to sign her new book "Keep Cookin' Cowgirl," and there will be a trunk show featuring the rustic furniture of Dave Cretsinger and leather Christmas stockings by Stellar Ranch.

There will also be a drawing for an original painting by Tom Brown, called "Cascade Snowfall."

Aspen moved to the Oak Street location a year ago, after nine years in Town Square. The higher level of visibility and larger space has been a boon to the business. She attributes her ability to hang in there through a deep recession to "saving and loyal repeat clientele."

"People are into second-hand," Aspen notes - particularly quality goods that are lightly used.

"I think the reason I am still here after 10 years is the support from my loyal customers and consignors - could not do it with out them. The consignors send me great inventory from all over the West. Farthest away has been Chicago!

The inventory always changes, which brings people in to treasure hunt."
