Book sale on the way over holidays

Each July on Quilt Show day the Friends Book Corner (FBC) holds their popular used-book sale to help clear out their inventory. The sale has proven so successful that they will be holding their first-ever Holiday Book Sale on Sunday, December 8 and Tuesday, December 10 during the hours of 1 to 3 p.m. at the Sisters Library.

There will be bargains galore, with most books selling for 50 percent off and pocket paperback books for 10 cents each.

The FBC, tucked away in the north end of the Sisters Library building, provides a ready outlet for both donating good used books and also purchasing them. FBC is the used bookstore run by the Friends of the Sisters Library (FOSL) and currently has a crew of 24 volunteers.

For the past two years the group has been headed by Arlie Winters, Sandy Duncan, and Julie Graham. Sandy will continue in the leadership role with Nicki Jones and Alicia Navia. Scheduling of volunteers is done by Vicky Hughes. They are always looking for new volunteers to join them.

Money raised by the sale of used books is given to help support the Deschutes Public Library System, which includes the Sisters Library. In the first half of this fiscal year (June-December) sales have generated over $700.

Book and CD donations may be dropped off during regular business hours of the library or hours of operation for the Book Corner, every Sunday and Tuesday, 1 to 3 p.m. A maximum of two sacks of books at a time may be donated. They ask that hardback and trade paperback books be no older than 10 years, with health, travel, and political/social commentaries no older than five years. The most popular books purchased are histories, biographies, memoirs and novels.
