News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Sisters High Desert Chorale, under the direction of Irene Liden, will once again offer two free Christmas concerts for the enjoyment of the community. Also performing will be the Sisters High Desert Bell Choir, directed by Lola Knox.
The concerts, held at Sisters Community Church, 1300 W. McKenzie Highway, will be on Friday evening, December 20, at 7 p.m. and Sunday afternoon, December 22, at 2:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to enjoy this annual Sisters tradition.
Musical offerings to be performed include some traditional carols: "Sing We Now of Christmas," "Do You Hear What I Hear?," "In the Bleak Midwinter," and "Christmas Day in the Morning." Other selections include three spirituals, holiday songs by John Williams from the movie Home Alone, the lovely "Candlelight Carol," the lesser-known "Sir Christmas," and a fun "Thirty Second Fa-La-La."
The audience will have a chance to join in and sing along with the choir and the bells on the last four songs.
During intermission the audience will be invited to partake of Christmas goodies prepared by members of the choir. While the concerts and refreshments are offered free of charge, the audience will have the opportunity to make free-will offerings to help defray expenses incurred by the all-volunteer choir.
Rehearsals for the spring concert will begin in February, and any community members who would like to join are invited to come to the first practice. No auditions are required, just a love of singing and desire to have fun making music. Watch The Nugget for announcements of the start date in February.
