Citizens can name downtown park

Construction of a new park located on the southeast corner of Fir Street and Main Avenue will begin this spring and be open to the public by summer.

The City of Sisters is encouraging the public to help name this park that will feature a splash play area with boulders, a performance stage and seating area, a picnic facility, restrooms, bike corrals, benches, a fire pit with seating, a drinking fountain, trash receptacles and on-site parking. Elements of the park include its connection to nature: birds, timber, water and boulders.

Contest Rules:

• Contest is open to all members of the public.

• In instances where the same name is submitted, the selection committee will use the entry with the earliest submission time and date.

• By entering the contest, all entrants permit the City of Sisters use of their entry for the purposes of promoting the new park.

Entries may be submitted by:

• Mailing the City of Sisters - Park Naming Contest - P.O. Box 39, Sisters, OR, 97759.

• Emailing the community development director at [email protected] with the subject line of "Park Naming Contest."

Deadline for entries is Friday January 3, 2014 at 5 p.m.

Winning name entries will be published in The Nugget between January 13 and January 24, 2014, for the public to vote on. The individual submitting the winning entry will receive recognition in The Nugget Newspaper and at the grand opening of the park.
