HarmonyHouse to present final show

For the past six years, Doug and Katie Cavanaugh hosted a series of winter house concerts at their HarmonyHouse on Kent Road east of Sisters.

On Saturday, January 11, they will close their run with a final concert featuring David Jacobs-Strain and special guest Bob Beach.

"We want to thank all of our loyal patrons who shared with us in the magic of our venue - the talented artists, the extraordinary acoustics, our loyal and gracious volunteers, Doug's bonfire and the marvelous sense of community that the HarmonyHouse Concerts provided," said Katie Cavanaugh.

David Jacobs-Strain is a slide guitarist and modern roots singer-songwriter whose musical journey begins in the wellspring of Delta blues but ranges far afield from there. In his mid-20, he already channels age-old wisdom and heartache with such dexterity, energy, and passion that you feel good, even about feeling bad.

He has performed several times at the Sisters Folk Festival.

Katie Cavanaugh told The Nugget that the decision to call it quits reflects a changed music scene in Sisters. When the concert series started, there was little live music to be had in Sisters Country during the winter months. Now, The Belfry hosts regular shows and the Sisters Folk Festival has an active winter concert series.

"Everything comes full circle and we decided it was time to set it aside indefinitely," Cavanaugh said. "We're going to take the time to say thank you and just let it go."

The couple remains open to special shows in the future.

The January show seemed an apt time to close the circle, as David Jacobs-Strain is a close personal

friend.

"What better way to celebrate what HarmonyHouse has been to the community than to have David, who rocks the place and brings such great energy," Cavanaugh said. "He means so much to us, and people love him."

HarmonyHouse is located at 17505 Kent Rd. (off Cloverdale Road) east of Sisters. Call 541-548-2209 for information or directions.

Doors open at 7 p.m.; Music begins at 8 p.m. Suggested donation is $20.
