Public invited to amphitheater discussion

The City of Sisters will roll out for discussion its preliminary plans for an amphitheater in a public meeting on Wednesday, January 29, at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.

The meeting will be an opportunity for the public to get a comprehensive look at what the amphitheater could look like and how it would function.

"We'll have the conceptual drawings; we'll have the model," said Mayor Brad Boyd.

City staff and council members will also be prepared to discuss fundraising plans and the financial numbers surrounding the project.

The city has put down a $25,000 refundable deposit on 11.5 acres within the city limits for a city amphitheater and parking. The property is located in two places: on the southwest corner of Locust Street and Barclay Drive, extending west to Larch Street and, separately, immediately north of Barclay Drive and west of the former Conklin House.

Boyd strongly urges the community to turn out for the meeting, both to learn more about the project and for the public to have their voice heard.

"Now is the time to come and see what we're doing, to get your questions answered," he said.

Boyd said he welcomes questions on the rationale behind the project - "why we're doing it, why that location, what are the benefits..."

He said the council and staff will also address questions about such matters as how traffic and parking will be handled.

The meeting will be held in the City Hall council chambers. City Hall is located at 520 E. Cascade Ave. For more information call 541-549-6022.
