SPRD to host basketball shootout

Sisters Park & Recreation District (SPRD) will host its first basketball tournament of the season Saturday and Sunday, January 18-19.

Each of the shootout series basketball tournaments will attract around 50 teams of fifth- through eighth-graders from all over the state.

This first tournament will feature teams from as far north as Longview, Washington, to as far south as Klamath Falls.

"Events like this are fantastic for our community for a variety of reasons," said SPRD Executive Director Liam Hughes. "Firstly it gives our local athletes an opportunity to participate in a high quality tournament here at home, and second it provides a much-needed economic boost for the town's businesses in a traditionally slow season. With 50 teams in the tournament we will expect to see 1,000-1,500 extra people in town for the weekend.

"I also would like to extend a huge thank-you to all the local businesses that supported the tournaments as sponsors including our gold sponsor, Black Butte Ranch."

The Sisters Shootout Basketball Tournaments function as a fundraiser for the Outlaw Basketball Club through SPRD. The community is encouraged to come out and support our young athletes as they compete against teams from all over the state. Game schedules will be available on the SPRD website by Thursday.
