News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Community members eager to get detailed information on a proposed amphitheater project in Sisters are encouraged to attend a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, at City Hall.
"We said when we started this (process) that it would take a couple of months to get our facts and figures together, and now is the time to be doing this," said Mayor Brad Boyd.
City officials have announced a format that they hope will answer the many questions and concerns raised in the community regarding the project. In addition to the city's presentation, there will be a question-and-answer session to deal with any issues not dealt with in the presentation or to elaborate upon them.
The presentation format will run as follows:
Why an amphitheater - background, community input that led to this effort.
Economic impact/ benefit?
Design elements - what is this?
What will this cost?
How will this get paid for?
Noise concerns.
Traffic concerns.
Parking concerns.
Boyd said that he is aware that there are many questions and rumors in the community regarding the project, including the sense that the project is "a done deal."
"This is not a done deal," he said. "We still have fundraising to do. We don't have the funds to do the project."
The mayor said that the January 29 meeting will also offer an opportunity to gauge attitudes toward the project.
"We'll get a better sense of where things are at," he said.
Sisters City Hall is located at 520 E. Cascade Ave.
