The City of Sisters has plans to renovate the Creekside Campground RV park near Whychus Creek at the east end of town.
There are two phases to the proposed project. Phase I includes removing 18 non-hookup sites and replacing them with 26 full-hookup sites, for a total of 76 sites. Phase II calls for removing 25 non-hookup sites and replacing them with 24 full-hookup sites for a total of
75 sites.
The city plans to add a concession stand, an office building and a restroom, and relocate the existing pump station.
City Manager Andrew Gorayeb called the project "an upgrade and somewhat of a realignment of the campground."
Part of the effort is to improve vehicle circulation, Gorayeb said, but the main focus is on improving the camping experience.
"It's not very user-friendly and nice," he said. "It's a lovely spot, but right now people are camping on dirt, circulation's tough."
The city plans to install irrigation and plant grass.
While the sites would be full-hookup sites, tent campers can still use the campground.
"It would not preclude any tent camping," Gorayeb said.
The city manager also said that plans call for improving the reservation system for the campground.
If all goes as planned, the campground could provide an improved revenue stream for the city - but Gorayeb said that that is not the priority.
"We just want to make it easier for visitors, nicer for visitors," he said.
