Groundbreaking will celebrate project

The long-awaited Cascade Avenue Street Improvement Project is set to begin next month. The Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce, along with the City of Sisters, Oregon Department of Transportation and Knife River, will host a groundbreaking celebration on Saturday, March 1.

The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on the corner of Fir and Cascade Avenue (directly in front of Bronco Billy's Ranch Grill and Saloon). The celebration will last all day.

Knife River will have big rigs parked along Main Avenue from Fir to Larch from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for folks to look at and explore. Kids will be able to climb on road graders, excavators, front-end loaders, sweepers, rollers, backhoes and more. There will be a chance to win a toy Knife River truck.

"'I dig big rigs.' That's the theme we went with for this whole project," says Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Erin Borla. "This project is happening - it's been a long time in the planning process - our business owners are as ready as they're going to be - so let's celebrate! We dig those big rigs that will be out and about through Sisters during this project, and what a better way to kick it off than to have the kids and families from across Central Oregon get a chance to get their hands all over those awesome trucks!"

KSJJ 102.9 will be on site with a live remote from 10 a.m. to noon telling all of Central Oregon how well Sisters can throw a party.

"Don't miss the opportunity to be a part of the bucket jam band from noon to 1 p.m. with instruction from Sisters' own Brad Tisdel," said Borla. "And of course what party in Sisters would be complete without Rodeo Royalty - Miss Rodeo Oregon, Sara Marcus, and queens and princesses from across the northwest will be on hand to sign autographs, take pictures and maybe even climb on a big rig or two."

The chamber will provide a limited number of play hard-hats to kids that come to the event. The Sisters Folk Festival and other arts organizations will be on hand to help kids decorate their hard-hats with stickers from across Sisters Country. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be available.

"This is truly a community celebration," says Borla. "We have the Stroll Sisters event the night before, February 28, where over three-dozen businesses will keep their doors open until 7 p.m. offering unique specials and treats -many of those businesses will carry over their specials throughout the weekend. We are working together to celebrate this project and all of our neighbors. Please join us and help us kick off this project in style."
