News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The girls tennis team beat Crook County 3-1 at home at Black Butte Ranch on Thursday, March 20.
Sisters played with heart and determination. Hannah Stuwe, at No. 1 singles, defeated Elsa Harris by default with scores of 1-6, 0-1. Harris was up one set and one game on Stuwe but had to default, which resulted in a win for Hannah. No. 3 singles player Allie Spear defeated Maggie Kasberger 6-1, 6-3 in a great match-up.
"Allie played her heart out like a rock star!," said Coach Courtney Collins. "She played with great energy and passion in typical Spear fashion."
Savannah Spear and Haley Carlson, the Outlaws' No. 1 duo, also notched a win for the team, with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Laura Fraser and Gwyneth Ptomey. Spear and Carlson played smart and aggressive, and outplayed their opponents for
the win.
"Crook County didn't bring a full lineup, but the Sisters team proved their winning spirit by supporting each other and bringing their A-game," said Collins.
Two days earlier the Outlaws were short-handed and lost to Redmond in a final score of 4-2.
Carlson and Spear (No. 1 doubles) beat their opponents 6-0, 6-0 in an overwhelming victory, and Brenna Weems and Dani Rudinsky (No. 2 doubles) won their match 6-1, 6-0.
Coach Collins said, "Not all of our girls could make the trip, so we were short-handed. We only brought nine girls, and that was a contributing factor why we didn't do better."
The Outlaws will play at home at Black Butte Ranch against Bend on Thursday, April 3.
