Track team limbers up at Icebreaker

The first track meet of the season is a test of pre-season conditioning and a chance to get into the competitive spirit. The Sisters Outlaws got that chance at the Mountain View Icebreaker, held March 19.

In the second race of the day, Brandon Pollard showed that he is a true force to be reckoned with as he opened the season with a speedy 1,500-meter race of 4:10.64 that included a brilliant kick. Dyut Fetrow (4:41), Devon Calvin (4:43), and Shea Krevi (4:44) placed third, fourth, and sixth for the Outlaws among 25 contests, illustrating the depth the Outlaws have in the distance races.

Pollard's engine is apparently already tuned up, as he finished the meet with a 51.5 leg in the 1,600-meter relay.

Freshman Keegan Greaney placed fourth in his first high school race, clocking 58.61 in the 400, while sophomore Jadon Bachtold placed the same in the 800 (2:15)

Jake McAllister was among five athletes who cleared 5 feet, 10 inches in the high jump, and fellow senior Ian Baldessari picked up a pair of fourth-place finishes by clearing 10 feet in the pole vault and running the 110 hurdles in 18.97. Seth Larsen cracked the top eight in the javelin with a toss of 113-10 as the highest placing thrower of the day for the Outlaws.

"It was good to get out and compete," said Head Coach Josh Nordell. "We sort of eased into it with a lot of kids just doing a couple events."

Zoe Falk and Michaela Miller may have been the exceptions, as Falk won the 200 (29.32), the 400 (1:02.76), and placed sixth in the long jump (15-1), while Miller ran in the first-place 400-meter relay, placed second in the 300 hurdles (51.3), third in the 100 hurdles (18.46) and ninth in the long jump (14-10).

Emily Corrigan (29.99) and Macadia Calavan (30.09) placed third and fourth respectively in the 200. Tessa O'Hern cleared 8-6 to place third in the pole vault, while Corrigan nabbed third in the triple jump with a mark of 28-8.5.

Katelyn Meeter tossed the javelin 93 feet even to place fourth, and then came back with a second-place finish in the 800 (2:42). Cierra Mann launched the discus 91-3 to place second. Freshman Sabrina Reifschneider picked up a third-place in the 300 hurdles (54.41).

Aria Blumm produced the only other win for the Outlaws with a convincing victory in the 1,500 (5:21.25).

The Outlaws return to action after spring break with a Sky-Em League meet Thursday, April 3 at Sweet Home.
