Boys lacrosse earns two big wins

The boys lacrosse team had a good week and earned convincing wins over Redmond and McNary. Sisters defeated the Panthers 19-1 at Redmond on Wednesday, April 2, and two days later earned a 17-10 victory at home against McNary.

The tide turned and on Saturday the Outlaws got clobbered 13-3 at Sherwood.

Sisters dominated play in all aspects in their games against Redmond and McNary. Coach Bill Rexford told The Nugget that the Outlaws played with energy and poise and played the best lacrosse the program has ever seen.

The Outlaws scored often, won the groundballs, and played great defense. Scott Nelson scored 11 goals in the two games and Zach Valoppi was right behind him with 10 goals. Casey Lane sucked up any groundballs that were within his reach. In the McNary game alone, Lane recorded 12 groundballs.

Rexford said that Lane Gladden and Jens Stadeli played like warriors on the field. The younger lacrosse players were all able to get in valuable minutes and contributed with energy and enthusiasm.

Friday's game against McNary was played under the lights of Reed Stadium and a few threatening rain clouds. The Outlaws put forth a strong effort and defeated the visiting Celtics 17-10.

McNary scored first but Zach Valoppi tied it up a minute later. The Outlaws went on to build a 5-1 lead to close out the first quarter and headed into the half on top 9-2. Four quick goals to start the third quarter put the game out of reach and the Outlaws evened their record at 2-2.

The Outlaws' offensive production came to a halt in their game against Sherwood on Saturday. Sherwood outplayed the Outlaws from end line to end line and dominated all the stats. Sherwood had 47 groundballs compared to the Outlaws' 24.

Rexford said, "Sherwood is probably the toughest opponent we'll face this year. If we hadn't had Spencer Smith in goal, the final score could have easily been in the twenties or more to three. This was a good loss for us, as it really defined what we need to work on as a team, and this week we will begin to work on the Sherwood 'to do' list."

The Outlaws were to play at Mt. View on Tuesday, April 8, and then travel to West Salem on Saturday.
