Construction enters new phases

Construction of the new Cascade Avenue is entering new phases as contractor Knife River placed crushed rock for the road, installed new curbs, and is installing four-inch slabs of concrete for pavers.

"They will continue setting forms for the decorative features," said community liaison Anne Fisher. "They will also be working on the northwest corner of Cascade and Elm Street, in front of Sisters Market, to make that side of Elm Street fully functional prior to the second-phase closure."

This week's work will focus on paving two three-inch asphalt lifts for the roadway, laying pavers for the sidewalk, and installing the back curb in the closed section of highway. Pedestrian access will continue to be maintained to all businesses within the section of closed highway.

Fisher reminds business-owners that they will need to remove decorative items from the right-of-way in the next three-block section, Elm to Pine, as soon as possible.
