Outlaws tally 40th conference win

Sisters defeated Cottage Grove (CG) 8-1 at home on Tuesday, April 22. The victory marked the Outlaws' 40th consecutive league win. The Outlaws lead the league with a 7-0 record and are currently ranked No. 1 in the state.

Jarden Weems did a fantastic job on the mound. Weems went the distance and struck out 11 batters and only had one walk in the contest.

Coach Steve Hodges said, "When a pitcher gets that many strike-outs in the game it makes it pretty easy for the defense. Even when Jarden got behind in the count he came back and made them put the ball in play. It was just a great effort and a great job."

Sisters scored all eight of their runs in the fourth inning. Highlights included a hit from Joey Morgan that sailed over the center fielder's head to score two, an RBI line drive from Weems, and a double by Cody Kreminski that went to the fence and scored a run.

"The hit from Cody would have been a home run on any other day, but the wind knocked it down at the fence," said Hodges.

Left fielder Alec Gannon went 2/2 with an RBI, and Hodges told The Nugget he couldn't be more proud of his young freshman player. Jonathan Luz went 2/4 at the plate and had a couple of great defensive plays for the Outlaws.

"The win was a great team effort," said Hodges. "I'm proud of all the kids and their efforts and concentration."

Sisters scored eight runs on 10 hits and had just one error in the game. The Lions had one run on four hits and committed three errors.

The Outlaws were scheduled to play at Sweet Home on Friday, but the game was canceled due to rain. Sisters will play at Elmira on Friday, May 2.
