Outlaws pile up wins on the diamond

The Outlaws defeated Sweet Home (SH) in back-to-back games, a 12-1 win on the road on Monday, April 28, and an 8-0 shutout at home a day later. On Friday, the Outlaws defeated Elmira 2-0 at home.

In Friday's contest against Elmira, Jarden Weems pitched a two-hitter shutout and stretched the Outlaws' league record to 10-0. Weems recorded seven strikeouts and gave up no walks.

"Jarden had great control and kept us in the game the whole way," said Coach Steve Hodges. "He pitched a great game."

Sisters scored their first run in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded, Ryan Funk was hit by a pitch and a run was forced in.

In the sixth, Alex Olivier got the Outlaws started with a bunt single. Austin Ogilivie was hit by a pitch, and Sisters got runners on first and second. A passed ball got Olivier to third. When Jonathan Luz hit into a double play, Olivier scored from third base for the final run.

Hodges said, "Our defense and pitching won the game for us today. Our offense needs to get a little stronger, and that's going to be our focus point now.

"We're happy to be where we are," added Hodges. "We need to finish league strong and build some momentum."

Three days earlier the Outlaws shut out the Huskies 8-0 at home in Sisters. When the lineups were announced, Sisters Little League Majors were acknowledged along with the high school players. The younger players were paired up with a high school player according to their fielding position.

Hodges commented, "We wanted to get the kids a feel for what it's like to be a part of the varsity experience. We want to encourage them to pursue being a varsity Outlaw someday and continue the tradition of excellence that's been established at Sisters High School."

Joey Morgan got Sisters on the scoreboard in the first inning with his RBI single that scored Justin Harrer.

In the third, Ryan Funk hit a hard line drive for an RBI single; Alex Olivier reached first on a walk and scored on a wild pitch to put the Outlaws up 3-0.

Morgan scored on an error in the fourth, and Funk's hit to centerfield scored Cody Kreminski.

Sisters wrapped up their scoring effort with three runs in the sixth inning. Ben Larson's RBI single highlighted the inning. Morgan and Kreminski both scored on a wild pitch.

The Outlaws held the Huskies scoreless in the top of the seventh and tallied the win.

Morgan pitched a two-hitter and is currently 7-0 on the season. Joey has only given up three hits in his last 13 innings of work.

Outlaws defense had a solid performance and turned double plays in the second and sixth innings to end the Huskies' at bat.

Sisters scored their eight runs on nine hits. The Outlaws committed two errors and the Huskies recorded three.

Monday's game at the start of the week was a make-up game that was canceled due to rain the previous week. Sisters made the trek over the mountain and easily handled the Huskies on their home field.

The Outlaws scored four runs in the first inning, added three runs in the second and fourth and tacked on two in the fifth to amass 12 runs and the victory.

Highlights from the game were Ryan Funk's RBI single in the second inning, Ben Larson's RBI single in the sixth and Cody Kreminski's two-RBI homer over the left field fence in the sixth.

Justin Harrer was the winning pitcher of record. Jardon Weems came in and pitched three innings, and Ryan Funk closed it out in the seventh.

Sisters is currently 10-0 in league and 16-2 overall. The Outlaws play at home against Junction City on Wednesday, May 7, and two days later will face the Tigers at Junction City.
