The Sisters High School varsity softball team ran into a pair of powerhouse opponents last week and quickly learned why Sweet Home and Elmira are atop the Sky-Em League standings.
Sweet Home took two from the Outlaws, 21-0 and 20-1, while Elmira bested the locals, 21-1. Sweet Home is ranked 7th in the OSAA 4A rankings and leads No. 13 Elmira by one game in Sky-Em League play.
Sisters fell to 1-9 in league and 1-17 overall.
In the first game against Sweet Home, the Outlaws fell behind 13-0 after two innings and could never figure out Emily Marchbanks, who has allowed just 13 runs this season. She finished with a one-hitter and 11 strikeouts in the five-inning game.
Haylie Hudson collected the Outlaws' lone base hit.
It was much the same in the second game, though the Outlaws scored first. But it was 14-1 after two innings and Marchbanks finished with a two-hitter with Hudson and Chawnie Craig getting base hits. Zoey Nason drove in the lone SHS run.
Katie Mobley was 4-for-4 with a double and two RBI, and Ashton Webber was 3-for-4 with a double and five RBI as Elmira beat the Outlaws by the mercy run rule.
The Outlaws faced Elmira on Monday, visit Junction City (5-5, 7-8) on Wednesday, host Junction City Friday, then visit La Pine 0-10, 6-14) May 13, host the Hawks May 16 and wrap up the season against No. 6 ranked Ridgeview (Redmond) May 17.
