Ward opens massage practice

Angie Ward loves to help people. When it came time to take a hard look at all the work she's done in a varied career - which included work at Bank of the Cascades and her own interior design business - she discovered that this was the common thread that gave her the most satisfaction: The ability to make a positive difference in people's lives.

Her new practice is completely oriented around just that. As a licensed massage therapist (LMT), she is pursuing her "passion to help people feel better, live better, heal better."

Located at 412 E. Main Ave., Ste. #1 (behind The Nugget office), her practice offers therapeutic, trigger-point, deep tissue and Swedish massage.

Ward discovered the value of massage through personal experience. She has worked as an emergency medical responder, and she spent six years as a Certified Nurses' Assistant, so she has some medical background. And as an active hiker and skier (water and snow), she notes with a laugh, "I have a good background in injury" and the chronic issues associated with those activities.

Through her own medical issues, which were not fully addressed by Western medicine, she had a need for natural healing, "and through that found the power of what the body can do to heal itself," she told The Nugget.

"Massage is so much more than pampering and relaxation," she says. "It is about wellness, health maintenance and pain management. The benefits to massage therapy are so powerful!"

Among those, she counts reduction of pain associated with chronic conditions; lowering blood pressure; improvement of posture; post-operative recovery benefits and rehabilitation from injury and improvements to range-of-motion and flexibility.

"More and more studies are showing the benefits of massage therapy, and I would highly encourage people to make massage therapy a part of their wellness plan," she says.
