News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Lauren Ashley Shultz-Berray February 28, 1987 - Thursday, May 29, 2014

Lauren Ashley Shultz-Berray went to be with Jesus on Thursday, May 29, at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend while surrounded by loved ones. She was 27 years old.

Lauren was born in Alotau, Papua, New Guinea on February 28, 1987, to Richard and Colleen Shultz who were serving with Wycliffe Bible Translators. Due to some health concerns with her mother during pregnancy, Lauren's healthy birth was considered miraculous, and the rest of her life proved to be equally miraculous and touching to everyone who knew her.

Lauren graduated from Sisters High School in 2005. Soon thereafter she began dating and eventually married Jayson Berray on August 12, 2006, in Sisters. A few years into their marriage they relocated to Portland, where they felt like their lives as adults truly began. Liam Alden arrived in April of 2011 and Evelyn Anne almost two years later in January of 2013.

Lauren was a passionate follower of Jesus who fully devoted herself to serving others. She strived for a genuine connection with everyone she met and touched many lives - and will continue to - in her all-too-short time on this earth. She had a heart for the less fortunate, especially orphans, and dreamed of one day being able to build an orphanage overseas.

Lauren is survived by her husband, Jayson, and her two children, Liam and Evelyn, of Portland; her mother and father Richard and Colleen Shultz of Sisters (currently residing in Gresham); her siblings Amy Shultz of Los Angeles, California, Zak and Karey Shultz of San Clemente, California, Heidi Shultz of Portland; her mother- and father-in-law David and Judey Berray of Black Butte Ranch; and her nephew Johnny Shultz of San Clemente, California.

Lauren was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lawrence and Madge Shultz, and Ken and Shirley Snelling.

Even in death, as an organ donor, Lauren was a servant of others. A true example of Jesus.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Westside | A Jesus Church in Tigard, Oregon, on Saturday, June 21, from 2 to 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to Lauren's medical expenses can be made at www.youcaring.org/laurenberray.
