News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Pete Deal, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away quietly on Friday, May 30, surrounded by his loving family. We are beyond saddened by his swift departure, but we trust that he is resting peacefully among the stars he loved so much.
Pete is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Judy; his son Scot (Eloise); his daughter Nancy Allen (David); daughter Susan Atencio (Tom); and his six grandchildren: Chris, Melissa Dane, Paige, Hallie and Kor.
Pete was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on October 12, 1928, to Don and Eve Deal. He graduated from University of Missouri and remained a devout Tiger fan his entire life. Judy and Pete met in Denver, Colorado while Pete was on ski patrol and Judy was a registered nurse. They enjoyed many outdoor activities in Colorado.
Pete's career in sales and marketing transferred him to Texas for six years, and then to Oregon in 1971, where he and his family embraced the Pacific Northwest. Pete hiked hundreds of trails, documenting each and every hike. Retired for 24 years, Pete used that time to pursue his passions in life, including volunteering with the Oregon Forest Service, he and Judy's cabin in Black Butte Ranch, the Sisters Habitat for Humanity crew, teaching astronomy, and his latest adventure as a tour guide for the OMSI submarine.
A celebration of Pete's life will be Sunday, June 8, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Claremont Civic Clubhouse; 15800 N.W. Country Club Dr., Portland, OR, 97229. We invite friends to join us in celebrating Peter's life and sharing fond memories. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sisters Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 238, Sisters, OR, 97759. Donations may be made online in Pete's memory. www.sistershabitat.org.
