Outlaws baseball camp will build skills

Coming off a stellar season, the Outlaws baseball program is headed into its annual effort to build the Outlaws baseball program from the outfield grassroots up.

The Outlaws Baseball Camp will be held Monday through Wednesday, June 30-July 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sisters High School varsity field.

"We do this every summer," said head baseball coach Steve Hodges. "We do all aspects of the game."

The camp is geared toward both boys and girls ages 7 to 13, with the idea of building fundamental skills and inculcating the winning Outlaws culture in local youth.

"Our varsity baseball players will be part of our camp staff," Hodges noted.

The camp will help young players "develop skills at an early stage so they'll stick with the game," said Hodges.

There is a particular focus on batting skills, since, as Hodges noted, the main reason kids quit the game is frustration at being unable to hit the ball. Batters will have their swing filmed so that they can see what they're doing and make adjustments.

Hodges noted that it's fun to see camp attendees go on to success in the sport.

"Joey Morgan is a guy who came to the camp at an early age, and now he's (going to play for) U of O," Hodges said.

There will be competitions, group games, and other activities, all designed to "continue to feed our program with quality players," Hodges said.

Cost is $80 per player, with family and team discounts available. Register in advance, or the first day of camp with Steve Hodges. Call 503-537-4221 or 541-719-1255.
