Eurosports thrives in new location

One of Sisters' signature businesses has moved into a new phase in a new location.

This spring, after years of renting space, Eurosports owner Brad Boyd purchased the property on the southeast corner of Hood Avenue and Fir Street and moved his outdoor recreation business there. The location is kitty-corner from Eurosports' long-time location.

"We had the opportunity to purchase the property, so we did," Boyd said, noting that timing and location came together to make the move viable. "I would have loved to own our own building earlier. I love the location. First of all, I've been here 24 years and I wanted to stay where our customers can find us. So, being at the same intersection is amazing."

Eurosports will continue to serve outdoor recreation enthusiasts.

"We're doing bike, we're doing ski, we'll do swim, we'll do disc golf," Boyd said.

But one of the attractive aspects of the new location is that it offers the opportunity for more.

"I think the outdoor space and the layout of the place really lends itself to more of a natural gathering space," Boyd said.

With that in mind, he's planning space for lawn games in the yard - including a disc golf basket - and he hopes to show the Tour de France on a customer-donated outdoor "backyard drive-in" movie screen.

Boyd is looking to create a nice place for visitors and locals alike to relax and stay a while. He wants to capture the trade of folks who come in to Sisters, park at the Village Green, go for a bike ride then get in their car and leave. He wants to entice them to stick around downtown.

"We're putting in beer taps," he said. "Our whole yard is a beer garden. The vision is tables, beer, bikes, gathering ... This is a story of revitalizing downtown, and making it more vibrant to a younger demographic."

While the type of liquor license Eurosports has does not require food service, Boyd wants to have some food options.

"We're interested in having 'chuckwagons' - food carts," he said.

He anticipates having the beer taps in by mid-July.

The project was a bit of a leap of faith for Boyd.

The c. 1935 building required a lot of fixing up, from the foundation up. Boyd has installed new plumbing, new floors, painted, and will install new doors.

He's already seen a nice uptick in business, and he's looking forward to a strong summer. And this fall he'll mark a major milestone.

"This November will be our 25th anniversary," he said. "We're going to have a big party at our new location."
