News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Marion Eileen Ast September 29, 1923 - June 23, 2014

Marion Eileen Ast was born on September 29, 1923 in Salesville (Gallatin Gateway), Montana, to Ray and Maggie Kelly (Michener). Her family moved to Portland, Oregon, in the mid-'20s. During World War II, she joined the Army Medical Corps where she met Fred Ast, Sr. They were married May 26, 1946 in El Paso, Texas. After WWII, they moved to Oregon and raised four children: Patricia, Fred (Jr.), Barbara and Geri. Following the death of her husband in February 2000, she returned to Central Oregon.

On June 23, with family at her side, she completed her journey in this world, only to begin her next. She was preceded in death by her parents Ray and Maggie, her sister Alice Jane, her husband Fred, and her youngest daughter Geri Hughey (Marchington).

She is survived by her sister Margaret Rae Duncan of Vancouver, WA; her daughters, Pat Kelly of Port Townsend, WA, and Barb Marder of Desert Hot Springs, CA; her son Fred Ast, Jr. of Sisters; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She passes on her love to all she met during her life, and especially those during these past few months. She was especially thankful to the special people at our local veteran's service office, the special individuals at Partners in Care, and especially the loving relationships she had with the residential care team at Bend Villa. They were there in her time of need, put a sparkle in her eye and a smile on her face.

In lieu of flowers, please consider Partners in Care or a charity of your choice.
